Where does the fat go when you lose it?

Blow your fat away: Exercise guru says we literally exhale our fat when we workout

Where does the fat go when you lose it?

It’s a question everyone asks when they start out on a new diet or exercise regime — where does the fat go when you lose it?

There are several persistent explanations floating around, said Jeff Woods, a long-time personal trainer and fitness lifestyle commentator on the Canadian Learning Channel.
Some believe the fat converts to muscle — a theory that is “blatantly wrong,” Woods said.

Others think fat is turned into heat energy and literally burns off. “Well, that sort of happens,” Wood acknowledged.

Before fat can be reduced, a person must elevate his or her body temperature and burn calories, he clarified.

As for the idea that fat cells metabolize — “Well, that’s just not true,” he said.

5 Ways To Get Fit With Group Workouts

Before you bypass group fitness, learn how sweating with others can help you achieve your fitness goals.

Group. Fitness. Classes. Put those three words together in a phrase—now read them out loud. Did images of spandex leotards, leg warmers, and Olivia Newton John-style workouts pop into your head? I honestly can’t blame you if they did; the decade of “Let’s Get Physical” still has some pull more than twenty years later. However, it’s important that group fitness be associated with something else. Sure, hefting weights on the gym-room floor and hitting the treadmill are popular workouts for a reason, but ask yourself:

  • Are you new to working out/strength training?
  • Is your progress or motivation flagging?
  • Do you have signs of muscular imbalances?

If you answered yes to even one of the above questions, you could be… totally normal! And someone who could benefit from a weekly group fitness class or two.

1. YOU’LL RECEIVE GUIDANCE FROM A PRO

When training at home, one daunting question of self-doubt has no doubt come into your head: “Am I doing this right?” Well, it’s hard to know how good your squat is if you don’t have a giant mirror and no one is there to check your form! Of course, you can always pay extra for a personal trainer, but group fitness classes can be very helpful—and the price is often included in most gym memberships. A good instructor watches all participants throughout the class to make sure their workout is safe and effective. The instructor should also have fitness training and a certification under their belt, and it’s not a bad thing to ask them about it, either. With your instructor’s guidance, and by watching their moves closely, you can often get a safer, more effective workout than you would on your own.

I don’t diet,” says Jennifer Lawrence

2014, THE HUNGER GAMES - MOCKINGJAY - Part 1, Jennifer Lawrence
A refreshing attitude. “I don’t diet,” says Jennifer Lawrence.

Jennifer Lawrence has the right idea about dieting.

“I don’t diet,” she tells Glamour Magazine. “I do exercise! But I don’t diet. You can’t work when you’re hungry, you know?”

We agree! And kudos to Lawrence for speaking out against dieting. At HomeBodyFit we promote a healthy lifestyle and not fad or crash diets. Our clients are encouraged to never diet and instead feed their bodies nutritious foods when hungry in order to keep their energy levels up. HomeBodyFit founder Matt Johnson writes:

In fact, I eat more now than when I was overweight, I simply changed what and when I ate certain foods. I have developed a program that works for me and our clients. We can show you how.

Lawrence also told Glamour, “It’s nice being in shape for a movie, because they basically do it all for you. It’s like, ‘Here’s your trainer. This is what you can eat.”

Avoid these 5 weight loss pitfalls

by Alex Carneiro, BodyBuiliding.com

Dropping body fat isn’t as easy as just working out and eating right. Misinformation can quickly lead to slip-ups and pitfalls. Avoid them with these five tips!

Avoid these 5 weight loss pitfalls
Avoid these 5 weight loss pitfalls

1. DIETING IN FITS AND SPURTS
Dieting: Let’s briefly analyze the concept itself. Most people jump on the dieting bandwagon with a specific timeframe and goal in mind. The logic might go a little something like this: “If I cut carbs for six weeks, I can fit into that pair of pants,” or, “If I replace sweets with veggies for the next few months, I’ll lose those last 10 pounds in time for my high school reunion.” No matter their reason, most people have something they’re striving for and a due date for when it has to be completed.

The reality is that we all want things done now. We want everything to be fast and effortless. Whether it’s a 30-day challenge or a 90-day transformation plan, it seems that nearly every goal has a date or finite time associated with it. While a sense of urgency might initially get you off the couch and into the gym, will it dramatically change you in the long run? Probably not.
